What is the story behind KnowYourVenue.com?
Since I was a kid I’ve been going to hockey games. Not so unusual for many northern kids, but I was raised in Florida. Hockey and Florida. Admittedly, it's an odd combination. While my friends were crazy over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I was the odd man out with my love of hockey and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
I love the entire experience of going to the St. Pete Times Forum to watch the Lightning. I love the fans walking toward the venue in their game gear. I love to hang at the sports bar across the street and the feel the camaraderie with like-minded puck heads. I love the loud band playing outside the Forum and the pretty girls selling cigars outside the Forum. The moment I walk in and catch a glimpse of the clean ice….life is good.
After the game I walk out of the venue doors and it’s warm. I enjoy the visiting fans who get a kick out of wearing shorts and sandals to a hockey game. I grab wings with friends, maybe buy a shot from a pirate. If the moment presents itself, I can sing a Jimmy Buffet tune with the rest of my happy hockey comrades.
One night after a game I stopped by my favorite post game bar. While at the bar I realized that when I attend games in other cities I don't know where to find the best post game bar. Nor do I know where to park, where to eat dinner, or where to find the best seat in the house.
Fast-forward one month later. I’m in Atlanta attending a Thrashers game. It's cold in Hot-lanta but I don't care. My team just won. Who wants to go back to their hotel room after a big victory? - Not me. One problem, I have no clue where to find the best post-game hot spot. I call my buddy who lives in Atlanta and he points me to one of the best sports bars I’ve ever been to. I go, I have a great time and after a couple beers I decide to start a company - KnowYourVenue.com.
Turn the clock ahead a couple more years. Know that I’ve got the entrepreneur gene running pretty strong in me. Know I love the venue business. And here I am with a start up that has pushed me hard and allowed me to do what I love.
Thanks for your interest and I hope you will visit Know Your Venue.com often to watch us grow. And I hope we can assist you in making your trip to a venue the best it can be.
Know it Live,
Cameron Babbitt
